🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective

We stopped by The Sands as part of the River to Rail Trail and I gotta say—sniff heaven, especially from the fishing buckets and the creek.

I saw some hoomans fishing (and even swimming—lucky!) and really, really wanted to join in the fun, but apparently, dogs in the water are a no-go (or that’s what my hoomans said).

Still, it was a lovely outing. The path was easy on the paws, there were grassy patches to roll in, and I had a great time watching the water splash about. A couple of families were having picnics and I might have tried to sneak a sniff of their sausage rolls… but no luck.

The trail itself is great for a gentle walk, but this riverside stop was the highlight. I got to stretch my legs, roll around in the grass, and meet a few friendly folks having picnics. Someone even said I looked like a “good boy”—which, obviously, I am.

👤 Human Highlights

The Sands is a tranquil, scenic stop along Gympie’s River to Rail Trail—a growing local gem for walkers, cyclists, and families.

It’s not your typical manicured park, but that’s part of the charm.

Think rustic riverside: spots to fish, shady trees for a picnic, and a front-row seat to life on the creek.

While facilities are minimal (no toilets or BBQs), it’s a great place to unwind mid-walk or to finish a weekend stroll.

It’s also dog-friendly—just keep your furry friend out of the water and on a leash.

Pro Tip

Bring a camp chair, a fishing rod, and snacks for a relaxed riverside afternoon. And maybe a towel—just in case your dog does decide to test the waters!
