Lake Alford? More like Lake Aww-ford! 🐾
This place was bustling with feathery friends – baby ducks, bossy geese, chatty birds, and even a few turtles trying to keep a low profile.
I had to be on my absolute bestest behaviour (ugh) with all the wildlife around, but the sniff opportunities were next-level. So many smells. So. Many.
There were lots of other pups walking their hoomans too – I watched them closely to make sure I was clearly the most well-behaved (Luna might argue otherwise). We gave the off-leash dog park a miss though – it was a bit muddy and, well… some of the characters around looked like they’d bark louder than me!
All in all? A sniff-tastic stop for a refined pup like me. 🐶

Lake Alford Recreation Area is a vibrant local spot with plenty going on. It’s a great place to stretch your legs and let the dogs take in the sights, sounds, and smells of a lively community space.
With families enjoying the BBQs and kids having a blast at the playground, there’s a welcoming atmosphere from the get-go.
We enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the lake and spotted heaps of birds and turtles. The facilities are well-kept, there’s lots of seating and shade, and it’s easy to spend an hour or two just enjoying the relaxed energy of the place.
Definitely a good stop if you’re in Gympie and want to get the pups out of the car for a bit.
Pro Tip
Avoid the off-leash area if it’s been raining – the main paths and lakeside walks are far more enjoyable (and less muddy!).
