You know it’s going to be a good walk when the first thing you spot is a giant anchor — and not the chewable kind!
I trotted alongside my hooman at Maroubra Beach foreshore area and discovered quite the adventure zone (even if I had to stay tethered).
I spotted a giant anchor plonked on some rocks (clearly a good chew-imagination moment, though I resisted), and another massive thing shaped like a Rubik’s cube (in my mind, at least) glinting near the promenade.
The sea breeze ruffled my fur; surfers sliced through the waves just ahead of us — I sat, ears flapping, loving every salty scent. Though I was on lead (so no full sprinting into surf this time), I still felt like a king of the coastline. Definitely a paws-up outing.

Maroubra Beach is a broad, open stretch of beach located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards, and offers full amenities including toilets, showers, a car park and nearby cafes. It has a strong surfing reputation, thanks to consistent swell and the stretch of sand that invites relaxation or activity.
While dogs are not permitted on the beach itself (even on-lead), the nearby foreshore and Maroubra Beach Park makes for a very pleasant dog-walking outing. So if you plan on bringing your dog, plan to enjoy the promenade, grassed areas and vistas, but keep to the on or off leash park zones, rather than the flagged swimming zones or the beach itself.
Pro Tip
Go in the early morning or later in the afternoon for calmer waves, fewer crowds, and a more relaxed vibe for you and your pup (on-lead)… not to mention slightly cooler temperatures for you dog’s paws.
