We hit the trail at Wild Cattle Creek in Tannum Sands, and let me tell you—this place is a sniff-sational playground for curious canines like me and my partner-in-paws, Luna. It’s an on-leash adventure, so the hoomans had to hold onto our leads tight—especially when I caught wind of something seriously feathery…
🎉 PEACOCKS. I kid you not. Real-life, tail-fanning, squawk-honking peacocks struttin’ around like they owned the joint! I almost forgot I was a dog. Luna stared, mesmerised, and I may or may not have let out an excited woof! 🦚🐶
The Wild Cattle Walk is long and lush—lots of sniffable bush, mangroves, and sandy beach tracks. Plenty of room to strut, sniff, and explore. It’s a bit light on the usual doggie comforts (no bowls, limited bins for us), so pack extra water and maybe a treat or two to keep tails wagging!
If you’re lucky, you might spot the legendary peacocks. Just try not to embarrass your hooman with too much excited barking. (No promises.) 😆
👤 Human Highlights
For the two-legged adventurers, Wild Cattle Creek is a laid-back slice of coastal Queensland.
The Wild Cattle Walk trail winds through bushland, mangrove flats, and along peaceful creek edges with serene views across to Wild Cattle Island. It’s not overly trafficked, so you can really soak in the sounds of nature—birdsong, the breeze, and the occasional distant woof from your dog spotting something exciting.
Facilities along the trail are minimal, especially if you’re walking with a pooch—so come prepared with water, poop bags, and sun protection.
The access point is easy to find at the end of Wild Cattle Creek Road, and there’s a handy turnaround and boat ramp if you want to explore more of the water.
Pro Tip
Start your walk early in the morning to beat the heat, bring plenty of water (for both hoomans and pups), and keep your eyes peeled for the peacocks strutting their stuff near the mangroves! 🦚
