🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective

Good enough, really. Plenty of space to trot, sniff, and do the occasional zoomie. But let’s be honest — the local pups weren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat. A few tentative sniffs, some polite tail wags, but nothing I’d call a social highlight.

Then… the exit. Oh boy.

Luna and I were on our best behaviour outside the park, leashed and calm, when a new arrival showed up. Big dogs. No leads. One massive black Rottweiler decided I’m coming over whether you like it or not. Commands from the hooman? Ignored.

Cue instant adrenaline. We jumped in between our hooman’s legs like the tiny, loyal bodyguards we are… though I did hear Luna let off a high pitch yelp. Thankfully, human reflexes saved the day. The other dogs’ hooman? Didn’t even offer a sorry. Not a “oops.” Nothing.

So yes — the park itself is fine, plenty of room to play, but on the day we visited, it wasn’t the friendly dog-and-owner combo we’d hope for. A reminder that off-leash fun depends as much on others’ manners as it does on space.

👤 Human Highlights

Victoria Street Dog Park is generally a well-maintained off-leash area with sufficient space for dogs to roam and stretch. Grass is good, layout is simple, and it has all the basics a dog park should offer.

However, visitor experience can vary. On our visit, the other dogs and their owners weren’t the most considerate or safe company. Particularly on exiting the park, we encountered large dogs off-leash with owners unable to control them, creating a scary situation.

If you plan to visit, keep a close eye on new arrivals and ensure your dog is comfortable with other pups and unfamiliar owners. While the park has potential, experiences like ours mean it might not be the first choice for a worry-free outing in the future.

Pro-Tip

Always keep your pup on-leash when entering or leaving the park if other dogs are around, and watch for owners with large, uncontrolled dogs — better safe than sorry.
