🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective
I love penguins. Penguins, however, do not love me.
I was allowed on parts of the pier (on my very best lead behaviour), soaking up the salty breeze and the seriously cool St Kilda vibes. Loads of other pups were out walking their hoomans too — clearly a popular sniff spot.
But just as things were getting exciting… we had to turn around. Apparently pups aren’t allowed anywhere near the penguins at the end of the pier. Something about us not being able to “control our excitement levels” around black-and-white wobblers. Rude.
Still, a great walk — even if my penguin meet-and-greet dreams were crushed 🐧💔

👤 Human Highlights
St Kilda Pier is an iconic Melbourne destination with sweeping views across Port Phillip Bay and back toward the city skyline. Dogs are welcome on certain sections and certain times of the year only, and must remain on lead at all times, largely due to the protected little penguin colony at the end of the pier (which is strictly dog-free).
The pier and surrounding foreshore make for a fantastic coastal walk, with a lively atmosphere and plenty to see. The pier has been recently refurbished following a fire, and the upgrade has made it even more enjoyable. If you time your visit right (without your pup), you may even spot the famous penguins returning to shore at dusk.

Pro Tip
Walk the pier earlier in the day with your dog, then return pup-free at dusk if you want the best chance of spotting the penguins.
