🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective

Any restaurant that lets pups dine with their hoomans automatically gets a solid tail wag from me.

Even though we were seated slightly away from the other guests—out on a patio area—it didn’t bother me at all. In fact, it was perfect. I could stretch out under the table, keep an eye on the evening foot traffic, and soak in those cosy restaurant vibes without worrying about accidentally booping someone else’s chair.

And let’s talk about the smells. Oh boy. If there’s anything better than Vietnamese food wafting through the air on a cool evening, I haven’t found it yet.

Every aromatic dish that floated past had me doing my best “maybe if I look extra cute, something will fall” face.

Nothing did… but the hope was strong. A dog-friendly patio, warm lighting, good hooman company, and food aromas worthy of drool-level overdrive? That’s a top-notch night out in my books.

Oh, and they were so friendly to us… they brought us a BIG bowl of water… like 2L ice-cream container big!

👤 Human Highlights

Finding a proper sit-down restaurant that welcomes pup, without limiting you to beer gardens or takeaway benches, feels like striking gold, and Lu Thi Mong Xe’s Vietnamese Kitchen delivered exactly that. While we weren’t seated inside the main dining room, the fact that the pups were allowed at all was genuinely appreciated.

The patio setup offered a relaxed, comfortable space with enough ambience to still feel very much part of a restaurant experience rather than an afterthought.

The food was the standout. Fresh, vibrant, and exactly what you want from Vietnamese cuisine: aromatic herbs, balanced flavours, and dishes that feel both satisfying and filling. The service matched the food, friendly, upbeat, and genuinely welcoming. It’s the kind of hospitality that makes the meal feel personal rather than transactional.

And don’t let the name fool you into thinking the menu is exclusively Vietnamese. While the Vietnamese dishes shine, the restaurant also offers a selection of dishes that sit outside traditional Vietnamese cooking, giving diners a nice mix of familiar comfort meals and fragrant Southeast Asian classics. It’s a smart combination that works well for couples, families, or groups with mixed tastes.

We tested both sides of the menu:

  • Vietnamese Pork Belly Salad – fresh, crunchy, slightly sweet, and beautifully balanced with tender pork belly.
  • Chicken Sweet Corn Soup – simple, comforting, and nicely seasoned.
  • Lamb Shanks – falling-off-the-bone tender with a rich, hearty sauce that rivalled many mainstream bistro versions.

Each dish was generous without being over the top, well priced, and genuinely delicious. There’s a sense of care in both the cooking and presentation that you feel immediately.

All up, the experience was relaxed, enjoyable, and genuinely memorable. Between the pup-friendly setup, the warm service, and the fantastic food, this restaurant is the kind of place you bookmark for future trips.

We’d absolutely return the next time we’re in Lakes Entrance—Ralph for the smells, Luna for the strategic people-watching, and the humans for another round of those pork belly hits.

Pro Tip

Give the restaurant a quick call before you arrive to let them know you’re bringing the pups—it’s a simple courtesy that helps them set up the best seating for you.
