Well butter my biscuit and call me a country crooner… I have seen the light. And it is GOLD.
The Big Golden Guitar is HUGE. I’m talking “larger-than-life-headliner-at-the-Tamworth Country Music Festival” huge. It stands there like the Doggy Parton of landmarks — bold, iconic, and impossible to ignore.
I strutted up like I was about to win my own Golden Guitar Award. Best Original Bark? Album of the Year: Songs in the Key of Treat featuring my favourite pieces…’Achy Breaky Bark’, ‘Take Me Home, Country Bones’ and of course ‘I will always ruff-ruff-love you’ 🎶

Now, slight plot twist in my rise to fame: dogs aren’t allowed inside the café. So while my hooman went in to order, I practised my autograph paw-print outside and contemplated my future duet with Keith Urban or Shania Tail-wain. Or maybe I’ll form a trio with Kasey Chambers and Troy Cassar-Daley. I feel the chemistry already.
Waiting outside wasn’t too ruff though. There’s space out front, and I got to soak in the country music capital atmosphere. Honestly, I half expected Slim Dusty to wander past with a ute and a yarn.
Big guitar? Legendary. Country dreams? Activated. Next stop: world tour.

The Golden Guitar Café is tucked neatly behind the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre, right next to the famous Big Golden Guitar — one of Australia’s most recognisable country music landmarks.
The café itself is small and casual, offering a straightforward menu with solid, satisfying options. The food was fresh and enjoyable, perfect for a relaxed lunch or coffee stop while exploring Tamworth.
As dogs aren’t permitted inside the café, we ordered takeaway and enjoyed our meal on the bench seating at the front. While indoor dining with your pup isn’t an option, the outdoor space makes it manageable for well-behaved dogs.
A real highlight was the Visitor Information Centre staff. They were welcoming, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond by providing a flyer detailing local dog-friendly venues and parks around Tamworth. That small gesture made planning the rest of our stay much easier and reinforced Tamworth’s reputation as a visitor-friendly town.
Of course, no visit is complete without a photo in front of the Big Golden Guitar. Whether you’re a die-hard country fan or just passing through, it’s a fun and memorable stop — especially during the Tamworth Country Music Festival when the town truly comes alive.
Overall, it’s a well-worth-it visit: good café fare, helpful local information, and an iconic photo opportunity rolled into one country-flavoured stop.
