Dog-Friendly Park Review – Pup-approved Summary
Looking for dog-friendly things to do in Brisbane? South Bank is a must-visit destination for dog owners, offering beautiful riverside walks, dog-friendly cafes, and scenic spots for a relaxing outing. While dogs must remain on leash and aren’t allowed in swimming areas, there’s still plenty to enjoy—especially for well-socialised pups who love being out and about.

🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective
South Bank? More like Sniff Bank! This place is a pawfect blend of adventure, smells, and scenes.
From the moment we arrived, my tail was doing its own excited little samba. There’s so much to sniff, so many friendly faces to wag at, and soooo many hoomans walking around with snacks (none of which, sadly, found their way to my mouth—but I live in hope).
We wandered down the Riverside Walk, which is wide and flat, making it easy for paws of all sizes to explore without feeling overwhelmed by the crowd. I had to stay on-leash (boo), but honestly, I didn’t mind—there was too much going on to even think about zoomies. 👀🐕
There were city views, the shimmering river, and even those strange floating boats that hoomans call “CityCats.” (Still no cats onboard, I checked. False advertising if you ask me.)

The Streets Beach area was not doggo-friendly (I tried to sneak in, but my hooman caught me). It looked paw-some though. Instead, I found a shady bench and became the unofficial South Bank mascot for a while. People couldn’t resist stopping for pats, and I obviously obliged. #GoodBoyDuties
We stopped at one of the many dog-friendly eateries with outdoor seating (so many options!). While I didn’t score any food, I did get to lie under the table and supervise, and I rate that experience 10/10.
There’s lush landscaping everywhere, with tropical plants, flowers, and plenty of green pockets for quick sniff breaks. I even spotted a bush turkey. Luna tried to chase it (She denies it, but we all know the truth.)… and so did I!
To finish the walk, we ventured along the Arbour, that beautiful pink bougainvillea-covered walkway. The smells? Chef’s kiss. 🌸

👤 Human Highlights
South Bank is one of Brisbane’s crown jewels. It’s vibrant, walkable, cultural, and caters beautifully to all types of visitors… including those with furry sidekicks.
While some areas like Streets Beach and the playgrounds are strictly no-go zones for pups (understandably), there are plenty of open spaces, shaded areas, and dog-friendly venues to balance things out. Whether you’re strolling the Promenade, enjoying a picnic by the river, or just people-watching, it’s a relaxing and photogenic way to spend time.

There are lots of restaurants and cafes with pet-friendly outdoor seating, especially if you veer slightly off the main drag. If you go earlier in the morning or late afternoon, it’s a little quieter and cooler for furry paws.
Parking can be tricky and a bit pricey, especially on weekends, but it’s well-serviced by public transport including ferries and buses.

Pro Tip
Head down midweek or early in the morning to beat the crowds and the pavement heat. Bring your own water bowl and a lead so your pup can relax during your cafe stops. And keep an eye out for sneaky birds and bush turkey… they’re braver than you think!
