🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective

Tails up, adventurers! If you’re lookin’ for a peaceful paw-some spot to sniff out, Cania Gorge Tourist Retreat was a howl of a good time.

We rolled into our cabin, and I could smell adventure in the air – eucalyptus, campfire, and something else… a rabbit?! That’s right, there’s a resident bunny living near reception and I was OBSESSED. I had to be on my very best leash manners, but oh boy, I could’ve watched that floofy thing all day. 🐇

Dawn and dusk? They put on a squawk show. Birds of every size and squawk level were calling out like it was an avian rave. 🦜🎶 I woofed a few times just to join in.

There were trees, trails (outside the park), and plenty of grass to do important sniffing business. The vibe was calm, slow, and full of nature’s music… and I even managed a cheeky snooze on the porch while Luna stared suspiciously at the cockatoos.

If you like camping (or “glamping” like we did), it’s a fab place for puppers to unwind while the hoomans pretend to switch off. Five belly rubs from me!

👤 Human Highlights

Cania Gorge Tourist Retreat is a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path getaway nestled beside the striking Cania Gorge National Park. While the national park itself is not dog-friendly, the retreat is – making it a great base for those exploring the area with pets, even if you can’t venture into the park itself with your pooch.

We stayed in one of the cabins – compact but clean, with a small private bathroom and enough comfort for a short nature break. There’s also a communal kitchen for anyone wanting to self-cater, a fire pit area (though firewood did cost extra) and lots of well-maintained campgrounds with shaded sites under gum trees.

The staff were friendly and welcoming enough.

One thing to note: there is a pet surcharge, which wasn’t made as clear as it could have been on the website. It’s not a deal-breaker, but just something to be aware of when budgeting your stay.

The retreat is well positioned for peace and quiet, but comes with the trade-off that there’s no mobile reception and Wi-Fi is limited – so expect a proper digital detox. Supplies are also very limited in the area, though there’s a small kiosk at reception with a few basics like snacks, drinks, and ice creams at the usual reception prices.

Overall, it’s a laid-back, rustic experience that’s ideal if you’re looking to disconnect and enjoy nature, with your furry companions by your side.

Pro Tip

Don’t forget to pack all the essentials – there’s very limited phone reception and the closest real shops are a good drive away!
