🐶 Ralph’s Pawspective
When we pulled into The Jabiru Motel, I wasn’t sure what to expect — but I’ve gotta say, for a pup-friendly pit stop, it ticked a lot of boxes. We stayed in a ground-floor corner unit, which was paw-fect because it had direct access to a grassy patch right outside. Ideal for those late-night wees and morning sniff sessions. My hoomans appreciated not having to trek far for me to do my business (you’re welcome).
Whilst it was off the main road, the area was super quiet. I even got to wander around on-lead and explore some of the surrounds — lots of new smells, trees to investigate, and other pups stopping by. Everyone seemed chill and friendly, like we were all part of a secret travellers’ club who knew this was the spot for a peaceful overnight stay.

There wasn’t a fenced yard or anything fancy, but the open grassy spaces around were decent for a quick play or a bit of a stretch after being in the car. The motel itself had that older Aussie charm — nothing flash, but comfy enough. I’d say it’s more of a “rest stop” kind of place than a holiday destination, but that suited us just fine after a big day on the road.
The only downside? The Wi-Fi was spotty, which meant my hooman couldn’t scroll Ruff Ruff Reviews for inspiration (tragedy, I know). But honestly, that just meant more cuddle time for me, so no complaints there. Overall, this was a good, dog-friendly stay for travellers passing through — quiet, comfy, and grassy in all the right spots.

👤 Human Highlights
For a quiet stopover between road trips, The Jabiru Motel in Nambucca Heads does the job. The rooms are dated but functional, clean enough, and equipped with the basics — a bed, shower, small fridge, and air con. We stayed in the corner ground-floor unit, which turned out to be the best pick, as it gave us direct access to grass outside for the dogs. It made things simple, especially for early morning walks or late-night toilet breaks.
The location is peaceful, set back from the main road, which gives it a calm, away-from-it-all vibe. However, that also means you’ll need to drive into town for food or activities, as there’s not much within walking distance. The views from the back are a nice touch though — it overlooks a bit of greenery and open space, perfect for unwinding after a long drive.
On the service side, check-in was straightforward, though the receptionist could’ve been a bit friendlier — not rude, just lacking that warm country hospitality you sometimes get at smaller motels. Once settled, though, the stay itself was comfortable. We met a few other, all doing the same thing — using Jabiru as a practical, pet-friendly rest stop on their way north or south.
A few things to note: Wi-Fi and mobile reception are patchy, so if you need to be online, plan ahead. There are no major facilities like a restaurant, so it’s best thought of as a stopover spot rather than a destination. Still, with clean rooms, a quiet environment, and space for the dogs to stretch their legs, it does exactly what you need for a night or two.
Overall, The Jabiru Motel is a no-frills but pet-friendly choice for travellers looking for a quiet, comfortable night’s sleep. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard, but still gets the job done — a little old-school, a little rough around the edges, but welcoming in its own understated way.

Pro Tip
Book a ground-floor corner unit for the best access to grass — your pup (and your sanity) will thank you!
